Pergolas, Passion, Purpose…
In a heartwarming display of community spirit, thousands of volunteers and many organizations have come together to provide community service alongside the Tulsa Area United Way (TAUW) for their 32nd annual Day of Caring event on September 15th. Day of Caring is an event in which over 3,500 volunteers dedicate their time to physically servicing communities spanning across the Tulsa area. (Pergola World or Green Okie) had the pleasure of partnering with Quiktrip (QT) to provide materials and facilitate the construction of two pergolas at A New Leaf’s The Village in Owasso. Per A New Leaf’s website, they are the "leading provider in Northeast Oklahoma for individuals with developmental disabilities and have created The Village, a compound currently servicing sixty-two residents. Over 200 Quiktrip employees volunteered in a week-long preparation for the Day of Caring with about a hundred volunteers with tools in hand working all day Friday.
A Quote would be perfect here.
The 50-acre property received a 20x20 Pergola World Porchmax Kit overlooking a large green meadow and a similar 18x18 pergola that was fitted with a conversational fire pit. The pergolas were built all about an effort on behalf of A New Leaf to provide meaningful communal spaces that enhance the quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities and autism. Along with the Pergolas, United Way and QT volunteers consisting of store and corporate employees, helped build walking trails, picnic and patio furniture, recreational parks, pavillions, and many more active outdoor areas. The intense effort and rewarding smiles provided by the volunteers expressed that the 32nd annual Day of Caring, was a shining example of how businesses and organizations can partner in active engagement for social causes, and not just be a (marginal/stagnant) corporate initiative.
